What Are Fantasy Points In Football?

Fantasy points in football are a way of keeping track of how well your fantasy team performs, separate from the actual wins and losses of the NFL teams.

Instead of focusing on the final score, fantasy football awards points to your team based on the individual statistics of the players you’ve drafted.

These points can come from touchdowns, passing and rushing yards, receptions (in some leagues), and other achievements during a game.

There can also be penalties for negative plays like fumbles or interceptions.

By adding up all your players’ fantasy points each week, you can see how your team stacks up against others in your league.

The goal is to have the most fantasy points at the end of the week or season.

How Are Fantasy Points Awarded?

Points are typically awarded for the following actions:

  • 6 points for each touchdown scored
  • 1 point for every 10 rushing or receiving yards
  • 4 points for each passing touchdown
  • 1 point for every 25 passing yards
  • 2 points deducted for each interception thrown

This scoring can vary slightly depending on league settings, but these are common benchmarks.
